International Collaboration

Group Reflection:

Working together, made us learn from each other’s processes and perspectives. This includes mistakes, dealing with art block, and understanding what workflow helps us. From various artistic approaches, we inspired each other to push ourselves out of our comfort zones. It reminded us that the world is full of unique individuals and that everyone’s voice matters. Our group identified with numerous cultures, during the whole creation process, we bounced ideas off each other and shared things from cultures we have experienced. This expanded our perspective of the world in terms of art and humanity. Being spread across five countries and meeting every week, we fostered our sense of international community and strengthened our communication skills, which allowed us to connect and unify our efforts.

This project incited excitement and passion. Ex

The Pieces You Cannot See

Mosaics are “a picture or pattern produced by arranging together small coloured pieces of hard material.” The pieces used to create mosaics are called “tesserae.” As humans, we share many experiences throughout our lives. We may not have been in the same situation as someone else, but we share the feelings, memories, and growth that arise from them. These pieces of our lives, the intangible parts of us, make us who we are and help us forge connections with each other. In this collection of work, we share our past, present, and vulnerability to show a connection that may not be visible at first glance. Step back and see the grand mosaic of pieces you cannot see.

VISUAL PRACTICE

Alex Rojas is a photographer and visual artist based in Vaughan and the Greater Toronto Area whose practice explores movement, performance, and the human form. Working across dance, sports, portraiture, and editorial photography, Alex creates imagery that goes beyond documentation to communicate the strength, individuality, and artistry of his subjects.

Drawing from his background as an athlete and his training as a visual artist, Alex approaches movement from both a physical and conceptual perspective. His work brings together an understanding of performance with a cinematic, editorial visual language, creating photographs that help dancers, athletes, creatives, and brands present themselves with intention and impact.

Alongside commissioned work, Alex develops personal projects that explore movement, identity, emotion, and the ways the body communicates experience.
